Dimensions of my fatherhood
a1

MY PROCESS

FROM PHOTOGRAHPS TO EXHIBITION

This project started very unnoticed in 2005. We began to think about the dimensions of fatherhood. At some stage I wanted to make my thoughts more concrete and took my first pictures. They were a kind of test pictures. I tried to find nice situations and get eloquent images, and took each one separately, not as an entity. In this way I continued until spring 2007.

I had a lot of photographs of many fathers, but in some way the thread was missing. In the group we had drawn up a nice list of dimensions of fatherhood. On this list I was placed in several categories because my objects were scattered all around the list.

At our meeting in May 2007 Miina, our curator,  asked a well-justified question: What is the common denominator in such a variety of different stories? For a moment I was dumbfound; I had not thought about it that way. To my own astonishment, the answer came out of my mouth: It is me. I have experienced the same situation or similar ones in my own life.

When I got home I wrote the first text about the dimensions in my own fatherhood. There are, of course, more of them but these I came across together with the people whom I photographed or in the situations we took the pictures. The text came out on the form of small poems. It suits me because I do not have to say so much and I do not have to make any long sentences, either.

That was how I found the thread for my part of the exhibition.
